We are back for 2022

We are excited to be back for 2022 – join us in Balboa Park on Father’s Day weekend as we rekindle our friendships and cheer for our favorite climbers – – – better yet, jump in and compete along side 2019 Champions Chad Brey and Kate Miller.

We will be revisiting the site of the 2019 NATCC – the trees and setting were so amazing. We are excited for our local climbers to have the chance to compete in them.

Update on 2021 WTCC

A message from Philip Ruiz, WCTCC Chair regarding the Cancellation of the 2021 Western Chapter Tree Climbing Championship

We regret to inform our WCTCC climbing family and community we have made the tough decision to cancel the 2021 Western Chapter TCC.

We have been monitoring the situation with COVID 19, State and County regulations, vaccines, etc. And although we cannot wait to gather again, the physical nature of the WCTCC event leads to the decision to hold off another year. ISA just announced they have also canceled the ITCC and regional competitions for 2021. The next ITCC will be held in September 2022 in Copenhagen Denmark.

A huge thanks to all the climbers, sponsors, volunteers, WCTCC committee and spectators that support the WCTCC. We truly look forward to seeing everyone compete, volunteer and the opportunity to catch up with our “tree family” in 2022.

In the meantime, work and stay safe.

Phillip.

Update on WCTCC

The WCTCC was scheduled to take place at UC Davis in Nor Cal this year June 5th through the 7th, Friday the 5th being the day of safety, followed by two amazing days of competition. UC Davis contacted us and wanted to push the event back to the end of June since the university and area could not allow gatherings of more than 50 people. Since then rules of social distancing have gotten stricter because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The International Society of Arboriculture has canceled the International Tree Climbing Competition (ITCC) in Albuquerque New Mexico along with many other chapter TCCs, and the North American Tree Climbing Competition (NATCC) has been moved to February 2021.

The decision is to cancel the 2020 WCTCC for the safety of everyone. This decision did not come easy, just as all other ISA and WCISA events were not easy decisions to cancel.

The safety of the climbers, climber’s families, judges, volunteers and all the spectator comes first, if it is in the trees, the setup, the equipment or the trees themselves. This pandemic has affected us all but we will be back in 2021 with another amazing WCTCC.

Sincerely

Philip Ruiz,  WCTCC Chair
